顶体反应由透明带结合及随后的下游事件（包括Ca2+内流）所刺激。顶体反应的特征事件是Proacrosin切割。在顶体反应后，精子穿过颗粒细胞和透明带。精子头部和卵子的膜通过精子结合蛋白Izumo与卵子CD9膜蛋白的相互作用而相互靠近。

Acrosome Reaction and Sperm:Oocyte Membrane Binding The acrosome reaction is stimulated by zona pellucida binding and subsequent downstream events, including Ca2+ influx. Proacrosin cleavage is the hallmark event of the acrosome reaction. After the acrosome reactome the sperm has passed through the cumulus cells and the zona pellucida. The membrane of the sperm head and the membrane of the oocyte are drawn together through the interaction of the sperm-bound protein Izumo and the ooctye CD9 membrane protein.
