Dengue virus activates/modulates innate and adaptive immune responses Dengue virus nonstructural protein NS1 interacts with several parts of the complement system. In addition, nonstructural proteins, as well as prM and C, bind factors of the host's type I interferon antiviral response (reviewed in Ramirez & Urcuqui-Inchima, 2015; Cumberworth et al. 2017). The overall picture is known from many expression studies. For general reviews about DENV subversion of innate immunity see Kao et al., 2018; Tremblay et al., 2019; Carr et al., 2020; Kraivong et al., 2021; Pan et al., 2022. DENV also employs various strategies to evade the adaptive immune system, including antigenic variation and inhibition of antigen presentation (reviewed in Lee et al., 2022).
