Aggregated β-amyloid interacts with fibrinogen Fibrinogen and fibrin, proteins typically confined to the bloodstream, can accumulate in the brain's extravascular space due to blood-brain barrier disruptions associated with various neurological conditions. In the brain, fibrinogen or fibrin can co-aggregate with amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides (APP(672-711), APP(672-713)) - a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease - potentially leading to the formation of abnormal blood clots that are more resistant to fibrinolysis. This process may contribute to the vascular pathology observed in Alzheimer's disease patients.
