Folate biosynthesis (in microbes) produces tetrahydrofolate through the folate pathway: dihydropteroate synthase is inhibited by sulfonamide antibiotics, and dihydrofolate reductase is targeted by methotrexate; humans acquire folate from diet but retain salvage pathways.
